I download 0.2.1-release from torrent. md5sum is ok. First of all I just try to install it in VmWare. All steps with partitioning disk, selecting packets and etc. was ok, but when sysinstall try to copy files on disk, then start problems. Sysinstall can't copy read files from cd. Ok. Then I burn cd and try on real hardware. Nothings changes. Experiments show, if select "express" then sysinstall start copy base, but at end of process it say, what process end with errors...

I'll test express install in a VM later. I usually run standard install, and that has the most testing. Was this the i386 release?

Because my English not very well, I try be short.
1. I think, ISO on torrent some have some stranges, because, I can't start installation from it. When I download ISO from official mirror, all become ok. But md5 sums of there ISOs is identical...
2. I starting "Standart" installation. Partitioning, selecting packages working well. Then sysinstall start unpack base package. But this process ending with error, and sysinstall offer reinstall it again. If say "yes", then all errors repeat. If press "no" then another part of installation finish sucessfull.
I try install on VmWare, EeePC 701, and Intel Core2.

Looks like the .ISO image from that torrent is broken as Griffin says it wont boot, i download the .ISO from one of the mirrors and make my own .torrent and i`m seeding that one now, if anyone is interested here is the file:
https://brain.bsdlatino.org/tracker/torrents/0.2.1-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso.torrent
Note: i`ll start seeding all the ISO via bittorrent, i read in the developer blog that midnightbsd don't have a way to publish a torrent tracker, the thing is that i have one and can be used for that.

My adventures with installation continues...
I found a very strange bug. When I install Midnight to Asus EeePC 701, then installation ending OK (with minor reservations, as sysinstall sometime don't want create labels, or can't create tmp dirs and etc), rebooting, then booting to newly installed os, all going OK. But when I say halt, or, sometime, reboot, then comp don't want to boot, complaining on missed operation system. This happend with stadart mbr and w BootLoader.
With FreeBSD 7.0 and 6.3, DragonFlyBSD, most Linux all OK.

I've seen the reboot problem on other Asus hardware before. In that case, it was a problem with their poor ACPI support. I'll have to look and see if the Linux community is dealing with it as a special case. It's probably unlikely, but see if they have a bios update for it.
dmesg output would be helpful too.

I found a dmesg online from a FreeBSD 7 machine along with a thread about two possible issues.
http://henripierre.charles.free.fr/eeepc/dmesg.withacpi
The first problem is that our acpi support is rather old. I've been working on that problem recently. The second is that ath is very old and may not support the device meaning no wireless. I plan to address both of these problems in 0.3.

Have you checked the MD5 against the one on the FTP server?
While using sysinstall (the installer), you can see error messages by changing virtual consoles. alt + (F1-F7) for the various ones. One of them (F2 i think) shows the error messages and activity of sysinstall. That can help to narrow this down.

Hi! No, I didn't checked the MD5 against the FTP server. Maybe the iso is corrupt. I'm getting the error msj "Unable to transfer base system from asd0"
I'll check it out.
Edit: Well, MD5 it's ok.
On boot, I notice that the system send some "dual core error". Could it be an incompatibility hardware problem?
A little detail more, when the installer is trying to install on hard disk, computer starts buzzing!!!

Well, Alt+F2 output was a huge list of: **/stand/cpio : malformed number**
Motherboard: MSI K9N6GM series
Chipset: Nvidia MCP61
Video Onboard: Nvidia Geforce 6200
Micro: Amd Athlon 64 X2 4000 (dual core)
HD: SATA Hitachi 160 Gb
LAN: Realtek 8201
Audio: Realtek alc883
IDE Controller: Nvida MCP61
Also, the system report a mismatch version among boot disk ( install Cd1 itself) 0.2-RELEASE and system install 0.2.1-RELEASE.

Hi! I've solved the problem downloading and installing x86 version. But now I can't get kdm on start up. I answered "yes" to 'enable graphical desktop' on boot-up, but nothing happens, but an error about ttyv8: " getty repeating to quickly on port /dev/ttyv8 sleeping 30 secs"
Edit: After reinstall the system the trouble was solved!

The graphical login step w/ kdm only works if you installed the kde packages from the ISO. Here's an option to fix it.
pkg_add -r kde
(if it hangs, try ipfw disable firewall first)
Then rm /etc/fbreceipt
When you reboot the firstboot script will run again after doing that. You may want to remove slim_enable="YES" in /etc/rc.conf
This won't be some lame in the next release.
